Oh man. When I last posted in mid-April, how could I have known the entire world was going to go EVEN MORE HAYWIRE?? Anyone else have a 2020 Bingo going? I started one and it’s starting to look like things are going to be crossed off, fast.
Let’s just do some recaps by topic, shall we?
Quarantine/COVID-19 – Memphis/Tennessee is out of shelter in place orders, although Shelby County is still in Phase II of our reopening. Which I believe is honestly best, because we have the highest Covid rates in the Mid-South. I am fully in the camp that you need to be wearing a mask 100% of the time (except when you’re actually eating) when you are outside of your home. I was lucky enough to be called back to my part time side hustle job a few weeks ago, but I’m only there on Saturdays and Sundays since we are open on reduced hours. At my full time job, we are still working from home and will continue that for the foreseeable future – which I am totally okay with. I don’t feel comfortable going back into the office any time soon. I am at higher risk, with my past Stroke history and blood factor condition, so I try and stay home as much as I possibly can, except for the occasional Target/Home Depot/Lowe’s/Kroger trip.
Braces – Yep, still have them! I finally had my 6 week 12 week adjustment back in June, and I got the two brackets replaced (one fell off completely, the other came off the tooth but was still on the wire) and a stronger wire put on. I go back towards the end of July. I’ll do more of a fuller post hopefully this week, with some additional pictures. I don’t think I’ve had much noticeable progress – but we’ll discuss that later.
Black Lives Matter – I am anti-racist. I fully support the Black Lives Matter movement. I will fully, 100% admit I have been racist before, said and done things that hurt people, even if it was said in the comfort of my own home. I’m not a saint. I continue to screw up. One big hurdle I’ve had to overcome is saying Black. I was raised to believe calling someone Black or talking about Black people was just as racist and offensive as the N-word. African-American was politically correct. However, I’ve been educated. Now I know that not only is African-American factually incorrect, as not all Black Americans came from Africa, but it is segregating them into a category and denouncing them as regular American citizens. I’ve been consuming content, and educating myself every single day. The book I’m currently reading is Abolitionist Socialist Feminism and so far it’s good, but it is quite the academic and heavy read.
I believe we should Defund The Police. The millions and billions given across the nation to police departments need to be scaled back, and given to services like social workers, psychologists and community efforts rather than militarizing our police. I do not believe in ACAB (all cops are bad/bastards), but I believe a large percentage are.
Other stuff – My boyfriend Bryan officially moved in with me back in May, and it’s definitely been an adjustment for us both. It’s all good though, it’s so nice to have him here and to feel like we’re actually beginning our life together.
I’ve been brushing up on some of my tech/coding skills with FreeCodeCamp – although my degrees are in computers/computer science, most of my professional experience has been more on the project management side and my technical knowledge has fallen. So as I work on advancing my career, I’m taking this time at home, when I have downtime during my work day and in the evenings to re-learn and newly learn things, such as React.
I have over 300 hours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Quarantine has been good to my animal crossing life. And that’s all I’ll say on that! #NoShame
I think that’s all I have to catch you up on. Happy Pride Month y’all!
EDIT: I switched my domain from kimberrleighlynn.com to kimberrleigh.me, so if some images or links don’t work on past posts… that’s why. And I’m too lazy to fix them all. 🙂
